Chaco Canyon

There is a reason that New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment. Jim had been wanting to go to Chaco Canyon, I thought "cool, let's go hike and see another canyon." I had no idea that it was the sight of some of the most well preserved ruins of Chacoan (Aztec) Culture! See how much I know about where we live!

This building was 3 stories tall. It was part of Pueblo del Arroyo.

The construction was so precise that door ways lined up room after room. (It is not easy to get through these short little doors when you are 27 weeks pregnant)

The open courtyard and some of the kivas of Pueblo Bonito. Some rocks collapsed onto the structure crushing 30 rooms after the sight was excavated.

You can see on the top and the outside edge of the walls where the rock is a different color. The Park Service has "capped" the walls with modern masonry to preserve the walls below.
