The Grand Canyon

We spent the weekend of the 17th at the Grand Canyon. We had a great time hiking the rim trail. I was afraid to go on any of the dirt trails with an incline due to my balance being a real challenge at this point! I am never a graceful person, but when you add a 20 pound basketball right in front of me, it doesn't get any better! We stayed on the South Rim. We would like to go back next year and explore the North Rim with some more hiking.

Totally unflattering picture of both of us...but the canyon looks great!

Our friend, Jessica, is getting her MS in geology from UNM. She is installing a "walking time line" from the Park Headquarters out to Yavapai Point. We apparently walked right past her crouched on the ground pounding spikes in the ground. We thought when we walked past the group working that it kinda looked like her from the little we could see of her face and then thought no way would she be working on a trail crew project! Come to find out, it was her and they are installing a time line that extends the 6 million years from the time the canyon began to form to its current condition. We are looking forward to seeing the project completed! (I bet she is too after pounding over 1300 spikes into concrete!)
